FabFilter has released Saturn 2, the second version of its Saturn multi-band saturation and distortion plugin, loaded with new features ranging from a full facelift on its interface to expanded features.
From the outset, the most notable feature is the new graphical interface, which maintains the red of the first version but refines the graphics and softens the colors to get closer to the style of other plugins such as Fabfilter Pro-Q3, optimizing the spectral analyzer in the background and the floating panel, in addition to improving the range selection system for multi-band operation, and now also adding modulation display to explore sources and destinations in real-time.
Saturn 2 also adds new distortion and overdrive modes, including a guitar amp mode section, for a total of 28 different types of distortion, from subtle tube-based to extreme destruction. Modulation has been enhanced with new curve control on envelope generators and transient detection on envelope trackers. This provides 16-step XLFOs, XY sliders/controllers, envelope processors, and MIDI sources.
The plugin now offers an improved high-quality mode of operation with oversampling up to 32x, plus an improved multi-band processing linear phase mode of up to 6 bands and new adjustable crossover curves with options of 6, 12, 24, and 48 dB / octave. Other new features include new presets, various window sizes, and support for common control surfaces in Pro Tools.
Saturn 2 is available right now for Windows and MAC as VST, VST3, AU, AAX, and AudioSuite plugins, also as a standalone application and its price is $ 129.
